Any seasoned reader will know what it feels like to have the absolute desperate need to finish a book but they can barely keep their eyes on the page for another minute. If you’ve experienced this then you’ve come to the right place.

I have the worst eyes. I get a lot of ocular migraines and being remote this last year has hurt my eyes even more. So, over the last fews years I've been experimenting with ways to give my eyes some pain relief.

  • For e-book readers I started using blue light glasses. However, not every brand has worked for me. I think you just have to try different ones out to see what works for you.

  • If you are reading on an ipad, I would suggest using the brown background and lowering the brightness.

  • Although, I don’t personally own a nook, I have used it in the past and really loved reading on it. It felt as if I were reading on a real page and I felt that I could read for a longer amount of time without my eyes hurting.

  • When my eyes are in a lot of pain I try to shut them and put something really cold on them, whether that be an ice pack or your water bottle.

  • If my eyes are burning and I'm having a particularly bad night, I use eye drops (my favorite brand is Zaditor).

  • If I’m reading a book that I’m really into I’ll try to read it in sessions in order to help my eyes. ex. I’ll say ok when I wake up and my eyes are the most fresh I’ll do 30 minutes of reading and then before bed I’ll do another 30 minutes .

  • Sometimes you just have to stop reading, which I know is so hard and pick up the book the next day.

*Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor/ medical professional. Everybody may have different experiences, I'm just sharing what has worked for me.
